India’s gaming market will reach 37000 Crore by 2025
The gaming market is one of the biggest sectors in the Indian entertainment industry. In recent times, it has recorded more growth than many other media sub-sectors such as home entertainment, cinema, audio, and more.
While the Indian gaming industry is still quite small compared to the Chinese and US markets, it is still one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the world. The gaming industry is currently generating up to $1.5 billion in revenue. By 2025, the worth is expected to have grown to 37000 crores.
Some of the factors that have aided the market growth are the increase in the availability of smartphones, better internet access, invention of popular Indian game titles, involvement of influencers, and the pandemic.
According to a report by BCG and Sequoia India, the gaming industry experienced a 40% growth in 2019-20, higher than that of television, social media, and OTT. About 86% of the industry is made up of smartphone users.
The report also reveals how the country is becoming a talent hub and investment ground for international firms. Rajan Anandan, Sequoia India Managing Director mentioned that the monetization of games is already worth $1.8B and is speeding up. According to him, the Indian gaming market is attracting significant interest from investors in the world.
A consumer survey to investigate the gaming habits of Indian players were also conducted as part of the report. It gathered responses from over 3200 consumers across 21 locations. The survey revealed that Indian gamers are not defined by their demographic, but by their preferences, needs, and gaming habits. An average Indian gamer who plays games as a pastime activity spends about 1 to 2 hours while die-hard gamers may spend 2 to 4 hours on the same game or a different one.
The report also highlights key factors that will lead to the next wave of growth for the industry. Some of these factors are improving usage and retaining users by introducing more genres to encourage engagement, helping more users discover and play games by providing casual and free games, and effectively pushing monetization via localized pricing techniques.
Prachi Pawar, Sequoia India Associate said, “80%+ of the mobile gaming market is driven by user spends, i.e., in-app purchases and real-money games, further catalyzed by the wide availability of quality smartphones, affordable internet, and UPI.”
Another highly monetized sector is real-money gaming. Many Indian gamers enjoy playing at online casinos and sportsbooks. These online casinos and sportsbooks also make it easy for gamers by accepting payments through local methods like PayTM, Rupay, UPI, and many others.
Examples of these casinos are JungleRaja, 10CRIC, Casino Days, and Betway. Before choosing any casino to play at, most gamers search for reviews of the platform. For example, a search for 10CRIC review will most likely give you an idea of what to expect on the site.
Opportunities abound in this fast-growing Indian gaming Industry. New platforms and companies are emerging daily, and it can only get bigger from here.
